Remember the days when you wanted to play a pinball game but needed a chair to see the table and the action? Remember the days when you had to beg and nag your parents to get some coins to play as your pocket money was already in the pinball machine? Nice memories but I'm glad to live in the 21st century and having the opportunity to play some realistic games on my PC. Pure Pinball 2.0 Redux is my latest cool pinball adventure. It's not a new pinball game as it is a revised version of the 2003 award winning version. It is the developers cut which features enhanced graphics, atmospheric sound effects and music which can be compared with the Xbox version which was released in August, 2004.

Pure Pinball offers 3 typical American Pinball machines; Excessive Speed, World War and Runaway Train. Each table has its own theme and turns the pinball into a racecar, some kind of soldier or in a fast train. It won't actual transform the pinball but it is as the ball needs to behave in the game (if you have some imagination). For example in Excessive Speed the pinball is a racecar and you need to play the ball through many speedy highways and you can even tune and repair the "car". The tables are fully packed with action and have multiple flippers to play the ball around and to unlock the special modes. Of course the famous multiball is available in each game. Hit certain buttons on the table and multiball is lit. Lock a couple of balls and the fun really starts as you're trying to hit the jackpot, several times if possible. I just love the multiball feature because of the extra action and the adrenaline through your body. As soon as you understand the tables' features and how to unlock them, it's pinball party time!

Each table has its own theme which has been visualized in a splendid way. If you're not fond of the table vs camera angle, don't worry. You can choose between twelve different camera positions which visualize the complete pinball table overview, ball close-up, ball follow or the traditional scroll style. The view can be changed while you're playing and automatically experience the outcome Make up your mind what's your favorite camera angle to play the game. I can only recommend to try several camera's angles, especially in the beginning as you don't know what certain buttons do and you can see how the table has been set up. Regarding the graphics the game contains life-like graphics. It shows the glass reflections on the table for example, which can be switched off if you find it irritating.

The game play and controlling is quite easy and understandable for any gamer. Not too many keyboard functions to handle the game. S to start the game and to select the number of players (max. 4), shift buttons for the flippers, alt buttons to shake the table a little bit (warning: tilt!) and a couple of F(1) buttons to adjust the camera position. And of course you need to press enter to launch the ball! That's it. The flippers are super responsive and the ball movement is excellent which is calculated more then 1500 times per second! Tons of special features can be unlocked by hitting them with the pinball to earn extra points, extra balls or multiball.

Female Gaming angle:As soon as you start the game 3 lovely ladies will show up; a cowgirl, a girl dressed in a racing outfit and one in a soldier outfit. Although soldier outfit…she wears a green helmet and carries a weapon as you can see below. But they only appear while loading a table. To me they are typical pinball ladies which are normally displayed on top of a real pinball machine.

Conclusion:
I've got several "issues" with this game for a couple reasons:
* it only contains three tables which is very disappointing
* no exact explanation how to unlock the special features
* it's not a new pinball game, it's a revised version of the 2003 PC version.
In 2004 it also got published for the Xbox which contained four tables. Why the revised PC version only has three tables instead of four? Beats me…
But if you're not familiar with this game and you love to play pinball, I can only recommend as the controlling, the movement of the flippers and the ball are very realistic. Test your reflexes and expert timing to masterfully manipulate the multiple flippers, multi-ball showdown and the tons of special modes in order to become the pinball queen! Last but not least the game is available since February 2005 for only £9.99 / USD $19.99 / 13 Euro's which compensates the missing of more different tables to play on.
