by Wencke Schuncken

Welcome to our wish list part 5! The list keeps on growing but we're pretty sure that we aren't going to cover all of the games which are going to be released this year. Therefore it´s called a wishlist. In this part we're going to check out The Last Guardian, Mafia 2, Mass Effect 2, Max Payne 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Yes, you can call it the sequel wish list.

The Last Guardian
The Last Guardian is an upcoming videogame, exclusively for PS3. It is expected to share stylistic, thematic, and gameplay elements with the developer’s previous titles, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, though it is unknown whether it will be directly related to either.

The game will revolve around the developing friendship between a boy and Trico, a giant, feathered creature. The creature has spears and arrows stuck in its back, and is initially bound to a chain. Later, it is freed and is shown attacking an armored soldier. In this third-person perspective game that combines action-adventure and puzzle elements the player controls the unnamed boy who can run, jump, climb, and perform other actions. The player may also need to use the environment to silently move around or defeat guards. This is augmented by interaction with the giant creature which the boy can climb upon and ride. The creature is driven by animal instincts, and it is up to the player to guide the creature, "taking advantage of his natural behavior", in order to complete puzzles. Exclusively for PS3, this game is out in the first quarter of 2010.

Mafia 2
Mafia II is an upcoming 2010 sandbox-style third-person shooter video game which is the sequel to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. The game will be set from 1945 to 1955 will feature a completely open-ended game map of 10 square miles. No restrictions are included from the start of the game.[1] There will also be around 50 vehicles in the game, as well as licensed music from the era. Mafia 2 is a gritty drama which chronicles the rise of Vito Scaletta, the son of Sicilian immigrants. As the game progresses, Vito will join a crime family and become "a made man." The game will include multiple situations where the player can decide the outcome and their choice will lead to one of several different endings. The game will contain two hours of in-game cutscenes. The original game, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, had a screenplay of 400 pages, opposed to the 700 pages of the sequel. Mafia II will be released on PS3, Xbox360 and PC in the first quarter of 2010

Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2 is an upcoming action role-playing game and sequel to Mass Effect. The combat system has been upgraded, and the AI being improved, including realistic damage modeling and downed enemies still continuing to crawl and fight. New to the series is a heavy weapons system that will allow you to "kill [somebody] a thousand times" over. The tone of the game is similar to that of the Wild West, featuring warlords and crime gangs. Also new is the existence of new alien races. The characters in Mass Effect 2 will be more detailed not only graphically, but technically, and the world will also be more open-ended.

In 2185, the character Shepard is awakened aboard a Cerberus space station that is under attack, and aids Cerberus agents Miranda Lawson and Jacob Taylor in escaping. Shepard is "upgraded" and is being asked for the help in combating a new threat which has been abducting entire human colonies. Shepard and his team are dispatched to the recently attacked colony to investigate. There, the group encounters Tali, one of Shepard's former squad members, and discovers that the mysterious insect-like Collectors were behind the attack. Shepard reports this and finds out what Shepard's previous squad members are up to. It is then that Shepard decides to begin recruiting a new team to discover the Collectors' plan. The release date is set on the 29th of January for Xbox360 and PC.

Max Payne 3
Max Payne 3 is an upcoming third-person shooter and although it is a sequel, it’s the first game in the series by another developer and writer. That gives the new developers to chance to start a new chapter of Max's life with the game. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever." Since the last game, the press release states Max has left New York behind and has "drifted from bad to worse." The game will be set in São Paulo, Brazil, where Payne is working in the private security sector for a wealthy local family, set 12 years after the events of the second game. If you want to check out this new Max Payne, you “only” have to wait till the second quarter of 2010 and you have to own a PS3, Xbox360 or a PC to take control over Max.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising
Metal Gear Solid: Rising is an upcoming stealth action video game in the Metal Gear series. The main character of the game is Raiden, the protagonist and player character of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, who appears in the cyborg ninja state he was in during the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The series' former tagline, "Tactical Espionage Action", has been replaced by "Lightning Bolt Action", to fit the new protagonist, Raiden. In Japanese mythology, Raiden is another name of Raijin, the god of thunder. The game will be released on the PS3 and PC in March, and Xbox360 owners have to wait a lot longer; September 2010!
