2010 videogame previews part 6

by Wencke Schuncken

And here it is, part 6 of our 2010 wish list, and we’re not done yet! Two more articles with lots of games to follow. But first let’s focus on Metroid Other M, ModNation Racers, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Rage and Red Dead Redemption.

Metroid Other M
We don’t have that many Wii games on our wish list, but those we have mentioned are truly worth waiting for. Metroid Other M is such game. Nintendo stated that Metroid: Other M would "take you deeper into Samus's story," and would be a return to the style of the traditional series as opposed to the Prime series, though the game would have a "harder edge". The story progression will be featured in the same manner as Metroid Fusion . Set between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, Other M will involve Samus's commanding officer, Adam Malkovich, who dies sometime prior to Fusion. The game features both 2D and 3D gameplay in both first- and third-person perspectives to experience heavy action-based sequences, and exploration-based sequences characteristic of other Metroid games. Metroid Other M is scheduled for release in 2010. Unfortunate we haven’t found out the exact release date yet, but it probably will be in Fall / Winter 2010.

ModNation Racers
ModNation Racers is an upcoming kart racing game for the PS3. User generated content will be a central aspect of the game, such that it uses the same "Play, Create, Share" adage as LittleBigPlanet to convey its basis in online user-generated content sharing and level creation tools. Players will be able to design and create their own characters, overall look, clothes, vehicles and race tracks in great detail. The racing is similar to other racing games in the kart-racing genre. The player races against opponents on a circuit, and can collect and use different power-ups and weapons to gain an advantage in the race. Some have called it a "High-Tech Mario Kart" for this reason. Despite the emphasis on user generated content, ModNation Racers will feature a full single-player mode too. If this sounds too good to be true, you don’t have to wait long to find out as it is being released in February, as stated on the PS3.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the new installment in the Prince of Persia series, and returns to the storyline started by Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2003 (just like we read in Metroid Other M, another return to the storyline). Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the next chapter in the fan-favorite Sands of Time universe. Visiting his brother’s kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. The game is to "feature many of the fan-favorite elements from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations. One of the new gameplay elements is control over the forces of nature. We can experience this game in May on PS3, Xbox360, Wii, PC, DS and PSP. Note that the DS, PSP and Wii version will be "featuring a different gaming experience than the more powerful platforms” )which mean that it probably best to check it out on The PS3, Xbox360 and PC…

Rage is an upcoming mix of a first-person shooter and off-road racing video game. Influences on the driving and racing gameplay include games such as MotorStorm and Burnout. For the shooting part, the game Doom plays a big part. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world similar to that of films such as Mad Max 2. Althought the picture referring to Raage isn’t that excellent, it is promised that the game included Top Graphics. Although the release date is already in March 2010 on PS3, Xbox360 and PC, there’s not that much information available yet. This is going to be a game which you just need to check out by yourself.

Red Dead Redemption
For all Western fans out there: Red Dead Redemption, the successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, is coming your way! The game is set in 1908; it focuses around a former outlaw, John Marston, who is sent across the troubled American Frontiers to help in bringing the rule of law. Marston has come to kill or capture his former gang partner Bill Williamson. It will also involve the events leading up to the 1910 Mexican Revolution. The game will use open world gameplay similar to the Grand Theft Auto series with sandbox environments and a free-roaming ability. The environments will include frontier towns, prairies, and mountain passes. Realistic horses created with the Euphoria animation engine will play a major part of the game's transport, and there will be over 40 different types of animals that can be hunted and realistic weather changes including seasons and the ability to ride trains to go to certain places faster than free roaming. Howdy gamers! Get out of the saloon on April to get a copy for the PS3, Xbox360 and PC.
