Hope you’re not having a sore throat, a cold, or even worse a voice with such a high tone vibration which makes glasses break as the Wii U party game SiNG PARTY is now available. Give it your best shot trying to pitch the right tone out of your throat, keep up with the lyrics and even shake your hips, alone or for the more experienced or daring players with multiple people surrounded.

First sing, then party, and finally combining the two together to get the maximum out of the game SiNG PARTY. Bundled with one official Wii U karaoke microphone, the player can test / perform with a professional microphone in the hand. The Wii U karaoke microphone will also be sold separately. An (extra) microphone can be useful in case malfunctionality or when using the game mode to switch from one player to another quickly without actually handing the microphone over. Also it’s preferred to have your own microphone which sucks up the air you breath but maybe also substances such as slime and even germs.

First things first. This reviewer wants to be fully prepared before inviting friends over to perform and/or compete. No risk taken to make a fool out of myself. So practicing as much as possible as there are 50 songs to choose from. There are all kinds of songs, from Frank Sinatra to lady GaGa. And of course no one knows all the lyrics, not to mention in which tone it should be performed. Maybe you do think you can, but believe me, you don’t know each word and the perfect tone. Practice Mode is the first mode to test what your voice is capable of, how the game reactions to your voice and how to become comfortable singing out loud.

Grab the microphone, turn it on, select a game mode and start the fun. In practice mode select a song and start singing! The lyrics are visualized in karaoke style, on the bottom of the screen but also in the pitch flow in the middle of the screen. The background visuals don’t include the video clip though but more graphical plain designed background which isn’t misleading you from singing the lyrics. Also the words are clearly visible on screen. Practice any of the 50 songs in full length or just hard bits to cover.

Convinced that you’ve got it and not scared to perform in front of, or in between a crowd of friends and / or family, it’s time to make the step to either a solo game mode or the party mode for multiple players or teams. Sing Mode is an excellent mode to play solo or as a duet, swapping roles (several singers singing bits of the song), adding instrument(s) with Wii remote(s) or another microphone to perform a duet. As the song is performed, the vocal qualities are measured, scored and evaluated in real time. For example the player can watch the TV to see if the pitch of the tones are correct as it is visualized also along the song tone and words on screen! In Sing Mode it is also possible to even the length of the song to short or normal.

Whether you’re having fun, laughs, or just embarrassment if a voice isn’t creating the sound you want or expect to hear, SiNG PARTY judges the singing quality of each song based on three categories; pitch, power and flair. Earn bronze, silver or even better gold stars for these three categories! This reward system is to motivate the player to keep on singing and playing the game, as more and more challenges become available. For example if a certain number of stars is reached, a new challenge is unlocked such as “sing 10 female songs”. Raise your voice while singing, louder and more powerful and power star are rewarded. Earn the stars to become a star!

In Team Mode, two teams can “battle” against each other. First take a fun team picture, give the team a stage name and battle with the voices in short 4 rounds, medium 8 rounds, or long 12 rounds. Select which mode you all want to play and create a playlist. It’s possible to activate a “relay” play mode; grab a mic, sing a section of the song, and pass it over to the next player on your team, which then quickly needs to adapt and continue singing the song till the next relay. It can be stressful, but it’s fun to do and guaranteed laughs (even when you should sing instead of laughing). Singing as a choir, without relay, is an option but less as fun and challenging as the “relay mode”.

From a female point of view, SiNG PARTY is very appealing towards young and older female gamers. But I guess it takes some courage to get their act together before performing before friends. Lots of female singers are included as seen in the track list such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kim Wilde, Tiffany and many many more. Female singers from the sixties to present!

SiNG PARTY is a fun, but also challenging karaoke game. The best part of Sing Party is that it not only includes 50 songs and perhaps more DLC later on, but it also permits multiple people to play along with the lead singing player; tapping and swiping the gamepad or using Wii remotes to play an instrument, taking pictures, and of course the crazy and fast pacing relay mode. The game is also suitable for single players, but the real deal is playing in front of or together with others. The original singers aren’t the stars in this game, you are! Throw a little party, have fun and prove that you have star quality!
